Hanover Borough, York County, Pennsylvania is made up of five (5) wards .There are two (2) Councilpersons who represent each ward. The term of a Council Person is four (4) years, and the candidate must have resided in the ward for one (1) year in order to be eligible. Every election cycle has one seat per ward up for election. The Mayor also serves a four (4) year term and requires a one year residency.
Petitions are used for candidates to collect signatures and will become available around February 19, at the York County Elections Office. 10 signatures from registered voters in the election ward are required, but 15 (signatures) are recommended. The original copy of the petition and signatures must be handed in, notarized, to the York County Elections office at 28 E. Market St. in York by March 12, 2019 in order to be on the ballot for the primary election on May 21, 2019. It is recommended to turn them in earlier if possible.
The terms of the Mayor, Myneca Ojo, and Council Members Brian Shea (1st Ward), R. Daniel Noble (2nd Ward), Ray Hoover (3rd Ward), Brian O'Neil (4th Ward), and James Baumgardner (5th Ward) all expire at the end of 2019.
The primary election is May 21,2019 and the general election is Nov. 5, 2019 for the 2020 election year.
