Klunk, Hanover Borough Announce Grant Awarded for Public Safety Complex

HANOVER—Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) and Hanover Borough announced a state grant today that will support the creation of a new public safety and Borough administrative complex.

The $5.5 million grant will be used to construct a hub for public safety operations in Hanover. In particular, the new facility will feature lockers and a shower area for officers; include a secure area to unload detainees from vehicles; provide safe and secure storage for evidence; securely house police and other public works vehicles; create an office for EMS and fire, and allow for greater prisoner and employee safety within the complex.

“I cannot underscore how significant this grant is for Hanover Borough and the greater community. As the borough’s current police department facility is no longer suitable for efficient and safe operations, this grant will provide much-needed funding to create a space that better serves our community and prioritizes safety first and foremost. Obtaining this grant was a team effort, and I look forward to our continued collaboration to see this important project through to completion as soon as possible,” Klunk said.

“The project, with regard to the police department, will increase the safety and security of the community and our officers, provide much-needed space for storage and training, and enhance officer retention and wellness,” said Hanover Borough Police Chief Chad Martin.

“The Hanover Borough is very grateful and appreciative to state Rep. Kate Klunk for her extensive advocacy in securing this monumental $5.5 million grant for a modernized public safety and administration facility that will provide a safe, healthy and conducive work environment that will benefit our citizens, staff, and the recruitment of police officers and personnel,” said Hanover Mayor SueAnn Whitman. “Thank you to the York County Economic Alliance, Hanover Borough Director of Planning and Engineering Eric Mains and borough staff for all their hard work and diligence in developing this project. This facility will position the borough to provide long term, more effective services in a manner that will benefit residents and employees alike.”

The grant was awarded as a part of the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program which is administered by the Office of the Budget. This program supports the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historic improvement projects.
